NuCrane Manufacturing, LLC, a joint venture company between Westinghouse and Hutchinson Manufacturing, Inc., provides fabrication, assembly and testing services for cranes delivered to nuclear power plants worldwide, including the AP1000® PWR.
The NuCrane facility in Hutchinson, MN manufactures large overhead cranes used primarily in the nuclear industry. The facility’s main building has approximately 51,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space with two large bays that are 70 feet by 300 feet. The bays each have two 75-ton overhead cranes to lift the large fabricated components of the nuclear cranes.
A typical nuclear power plant uses 40 cranes in various roles. Some of the nuclear cranes being manufactured weigh in excess of one million pounds each. With a skilled workforce, the NuCrane plant focuses on the manufacturing of 16 specialty cranes for the U.S. AP1000 nuclear plant market. They also provide fuel handling equipment, outage critical cranes and additional speciality cranes for other U.S. and global customers.
