Deva Chari

Senior Vice President
Nuclear Power Plants

As Senior Vice President, Nuclear Power Plants, Deva Chari is responsible for managing the global deployment of new power plants. Currently, areas of major focus include the implementation of current contracts for projects in Korea, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China and the U.S., and the development of new plant builds. He assumed this position in June 2010.

Mr. Chari comes to this position from his previous role as vice president, Nuclear Power Plants, New Plant Projects Operations, where he was accountable for developing and instituting the common processes and procedures that underpin project execution. Mr. Chari was also responsible for the resources deployed to leaders of specific new plant projects.

Prior to this position, Mr. Chari held the role of vice president, Nuclear Power Plants, AP1000 Projects. In this role, Mr. Chari was responsible for global deployment of AP1000 projects and oversaw the relationship with The Shaw Group, Inc., Westinghouse’s consortium partner, in executing these projects.

Previously, Mr. Chari was the proposal manager for the AP1000 project bid to China. In this position, Mr. Chari formed a cross-functional team within Westinghouse, as well as the existing consortium partnership between Westinghouse and The Shaw Group, Inc. The overall project bid to China required more than two-and-ahalf years of bidding and negotiating, culminating in 2007 with a multi-billion dollar award.

Prior to his position as proposal manager, Mr. Chari was the director of Korea Projects from 2001 to 2004. He was responsible for overall project management of new plant construction projects in Korea, specifically Yonggwang 5&6, Ulchin 5&6, KEDO 1&2, Shin Kori 1&2 and Shin Wolsung 1&2.

From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Chari was the project engineering manager for Yonggwang Units 5&6. In this capacity, Mr. Chari was responsible for Westinghouse technical management of the two units. Prior to this position, Mr. Chari served for approximately 10 years as a start-up manager in Korea, responsible for providing the necessary support during construction and start-up of four power plants.

From 1983 through 1987, Mr. Chari was a start-up and test engineer at Palo Verde 1&2. Prior to this position, Mr. Chari was supervisor, Reload Safety Analyses; and engineer, Safety Analyses.

Mr. Chari holds a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University and has more than 30 years of experience in the nuclear power business with strong emphasis on the areas of project management and plant start-up operations.
