Operational Excellence
Jack Allen is responsible for the Westinghouse behavioral and operational change initiative called Customer 1st. Customer 1st focuses on customer-centric continuous improvement in company operations using state-of-the-art tools and processes to enhance operational excellence and ease of doing business, and create success for Westinghouse customers. Mr. Allen assumed this position in May 2005.
Before his current assignment as senior vice president, Operational Excellence, Mr. Allen was senior vice president, Nuclear Power Plants, where he was responsible for the new nuclear plant arena satisfying valued customers in Korea and Japan while pursuing and establishing new plant market opportunities in the U.S., Japan, China and Europe. He assumed this position in December 2003.
Prior to assuming his position as senior vice president, Nuclear Power Plants, Mr. Allen was head of operations, MOX (Mixed Oxide fuel), for the BNFL Sellafield facility in the United Kingdom. He assumed this role in March 2001. In this position, Mr. Allen led efforts to commission, start-up and expand operations while providing valuable manufacturing expertise.
Mr. Allen was vice president of U.S. Manufacturing for Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel before assuming his position in Sellafield. In this position, Mr. Allen was responsible for the manufacturing operations of all the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel plants in the United States. Beginning in mid-1997, he served for three years as plant manager for the Nuclear Fuel Columbia plant where he was responsible for overall site management, including fuel operations, customer and regulator interfaces and supply management.
From 1977 through 1997, Mr. Allen successfully fulfilled management positions within the Electro-Mechanical Division and the Nuclear Fuel Business Unit, including engineering design and technology manager; materials manager; manufacturing manager; welding engineering manager; and technical services manager. He also was placed on a four-month task assignment as acting plant manager of the Blairsville Specialty Metals Plant in 1996. Mr. Allen has more than 35 years of Westinghouse experience in the nuclear field.
Mr. Allen has a Bachelor and Master of Science in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a registered professional engineer.
