October 30, 2012: Westinghouse and Ameren Missouri host Small Modular Reactor Supplier Summit in St. Louis

Westinghouse Electric Company and Ameren Missouri hosted Missouri companies in St. Louis at their Supplier Summit on Tuesday, October 30. The team introduced an audience of nearly 300 prospective suppliers to the Westinghouse Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project and the plans of Westinghouse and Ameren Missouri to build up to five Westinghouse SMRs at Ameren Missouri's Callaway Energy Center in Central Missouri.

Speakers at the event detailed the requirements and incentives to become a nuclear supplier, and presentations featured forecasts on economic impacts and job creation in the state of Missouri as a result of the emerging SMR market. Speakers included Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, Ameren Missouri president and CEO Warner Baxter, Dr. Geoffrey Black, foremost authority on the burgeoning SMR industry, Joe Zwetolitz, John Goossen, Gary Brassart and Juan Molina of Westinghouse, and Ameren's Adam Heflin. Several Missouri legislators were also in attendance.

Geoffrey Black, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Economics at Boise State University and a leading authority on the emerging SMR industry, presented the keynote address which outlined how the development of a domestic SMR industry can positively impact the national and regional economies.
