More Success For Springfields In The RoSPA Awards 2014

Westinghouse Springfields, near Preston, Lancashire, has once again had its approach to occupational safety and health recognised in a national awards scheme run by the safety charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

It is the 14th consecutive year that Springfields has won a prestigious RoSPA Award and this year the nuclear fuel manufacturing site has been awarded a Commended in the Manufacturing Industry Sector award.

RoSPA’s mission to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life. In support of this mission, the RoSPA Awards, which date back 58 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work. Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

“The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board,” said David Rawlins, RoSPA’s Awards Manager. “Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Springfields, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”

Mick Gornall, Managing Director of UK Fuel Operations at Springfields said: “The award continues Springfields’ proud history in the RoSPA Awards. It is the 14th year in succession that our occupational health and safety management systems and culture have been recognised. We are extremely proud that the award not only acknowledges all the hard work of our employees, but also recognises our excellent attitude and extremely high level of performance in terms of health and safety, whilst highlighting the importance in which safety is held at Springfields.”

The awards in more than 20 industry sectors were presented during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre.
