Health & Safety

At Springfields the health and safety of our employees, the community and environment is our number one priority.

In fact health and safety is the first and foremost message we teach all our apprentices so that it becomes second nature in all their working practices. Safety training for apprentices begins with a comprehensive safety induction, including first aid training delivered on site by trained paramedics, manual handling, behavioural safety workshops covering induction to site safety, risk assessment and all basic health and safety, which helps instil a positive health and safety culture that will benefit you for the rest of your career at Westinghouse.

Case Study

“As a Mechanical Maintenance Apprentice at Westinghouse Springfields Fuels Limited I learnt fundamental engineering skills within the training centre before progressing to work with qualified craftsmen across the various plants on site. The experience has provided me with a good understanding of how each of the plants operate. After obtaining the title of ‘Apprentice of the Year’ and later achieving a First Class Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering it enabled me to gain a promotion to the Product Design Group. I now provide technical support to the Oxide Fuels Complex and the associated AGR supply chain whilst studying a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and working towards gaining the status of Chartered Engineer (CEng). The Springfields Apprenticeship Scheme provides an excellent start for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the engineering and nuclear industry.” – Craig Levin
