Degree Apprenticeships

Westinghouse Springfields has introduced Degree Apprenticeships in Business and Engineering. 

The aim is to supply specialist business and engineering roles with bright, talented and enthusiastic young people in support of to the growing nuclear arena. Trainees will complete a training programme and academic qualifications leading to a Business or Engineering Degree (Hons)

Aimed at young people with at least 4 GCSE A*-C (new 9 to 4) grades including Mathematics, English Language.

For the Nuclear Engineering Degree apprenticeship:

  • Science GCSE A*-C Grade plus
  • 3 GCE A-levels (achieved or predicted), including Mathematics and/or a Science/Technology subject
  • BTEC Level 3 qualification in an Engineering/Technology subject with at least Distinction Merit Grade (achieved or predicted).
  • Duration of Apprenticeship is 5 Years

For the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship:

Aimed at young people with at least 4 GCSE A*-C (new 9 to 4) grades including Mathematics, English Language and studied A Levels or a vocational qualification such as a BTEC. Prior work experience would be considered on a case by case basis.

Duration of Apprenticeship is 4 Years

Trainees joining us on the Degree Apprenticeships will attend college 1 day per week and work towards qualifications in work placements within a variety of our business units.

Degree Apprentices will participate in activities that complement our business targets and objectives working alongside qualified personnel.

The apprenticeship is open specifically to candidates who are 18 years and over wishing to pursue a career in the nuclear industry.

Joining the business teams you will be based primarily at our Westinghouse Springfields site. Upon successful completion of your training, future opportunities may arise at this or other Westinghouse locations. Applicants will be expected to undertake a medical assessment, be eligible to work in the UK and successfully achieve security clearance; Westinghouse Springfields is an equal opportunities employer.

For the Cyber Security Degree apprenticeship:

If you have a genuine passion in technology and understanding cyber security threats and learning how to protect against them, as well as looking to develop a career in IT, then a cyber security degree apprenticeship at Springfields Fuels is ideal for you.

It's a unique opportunity to develop advanced skills, while helping us to grow our technical capabilities. You'll learn while you earn, gain a recognised qualification and build your experience and confidence in the workplace.

Working within our IT department, you should operate with a considerable degree of autonomy and research, analyse, model, assess and manage cyber security risks; design, develop, justify, manage and operate secure solutions; and detect and respond to incidents.

You must have the ability to work on your own initiative and also cooperate effectively as a team member. Throughout the apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and practical skills with a broad range of technologies.

We’re looking for bright, enthusiastic and driven candidates who can contribute to the success of Springfields.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and all eligible applicants will ideally have

  • 3 A Levels with at least one qualification in Maths or a Science/Technology subject.
  • 5 GCSE passes at grade A*-C (or levels 9-4), including Maths and English. Alternatively, a BTEC in an Engineering or Technology based subject is suitable.
  • Prior work experience would be considered on a case by case basis.
