Project Overview

Fireworks Terminal Replacement

Westinghouse’s Fire Protection experts were contracted to replace the Fireworks computer terminals at Bruce B Nuclear Generating Station. Having completed the same project in 2010 at Bruce A, our client wanted to update soon-to-be obsolete software and hardware while maintaining consistency between stations. The colour graphics annunciation system, known as Fireworks, consists of two computer terminals which provide primary annunciation of events in the station fire protection systems to the main control room as well as the Emergency and Protective Services Team staging area. The Fireworks terminals ensure station personnel retain full visibility of events in the station fire protection systems.

The Westinghouse Solution

Westinghouse completed the preliminary engineering phase to determine the best path forward for the project, including a design report, software qualification reports, as well as failure modes and effect analysis. The design report discussed the required system interfaces, software qualifications, long lead items, training requirements, human factors, and more.

Our experts completed software qualification as well as failure modes and effect analysis reports for both the Fireworks system and the EST3 data gathering panel application software. Additionally, our team completed the detailed engineering phase of this project which included all hardware design, system programming, firmware upgrades, and field installation of all system software updates.

The extensive experience of Westinghouse’s Fire Protection experts allowed for seamless deployment of the Fireworks system and full integration with other related plant systems at our client’s site. Both on time and without station disruptions, our team executed design plans, supported with installation and verification of systems, and assisted with procedural updates to our client’s existing operational programs and procedures.
