Westinghouse has been delivering reliable BWR fuel intended for a global market for over half a century. The current BWR fuel products, including the standard SVEA-96 Optima 3, have been delivered as reloads since 2010 in the European market and are licensed in both EMEA and US. Our innovative, best-in-class TRITON11® fuel design improves nuclear and thermal-hydraulic performance over any existing 11x11 or 10x10 BWR fuel design.

TRITON11® Fuel

With our TRITON11 BWR fuel, utilities can decrease fuel cycle costs by up to $4 million per cycle while increasing capacity factors. Our innovative, best-in-class TRITON11 design improves nuclear and thermal-hydraulic performance over any existing 11x11 or 10x10 BWR fuel design. With a distortion-resistant fuel channel, superior debris filter and advanced sleeve-type spacer grids that resist debris capture.

Reduced fuel cycle costs while maintaining high-quality performance are achieved by:

Our TRITON11 fuel design is built on proven components, mechanical design solutions and materials with known reliability benefits such as a distortion-resistant Low Tin ZIRLO™ fuel channel, effective debris filter and advanced sleeve-type spacer grids that resist debris capture. Lead test assemblies of our TRITON11 design were loaded in two BWRs in Europe in 2019, with target for reload introduction in 2023.

Core Components

Westinghouse has delivered control rod blades (CRB) for BWR cores worldwide for more than 50 years. The current standard CRB product is the third generation, high performance CR 99, first delivered in 2007 to both the EMEA and US markets. To meet demands of all potential CRB operating modes as displayed in EMEA BWRs, Westinghouse has developed CR 99+, delivered to Nordic BWRs since 2013. In the case the intended use for the CRB solely is shut-down purpose, Westinghouse also delivers the mid-duty CRB CR 82M-1, which has been manufactured for more than 25 years.
